AMSTERDAM/PARIS/BERLIN – 18 May, 2026 - Swapfiets, the world’s first ‘bicycle as a service’ company, today announced the acquisition of premium urban brand Dance. This strategic move cements Swapfiets’ position as the market leader for bike subscriptions, creating an unmatched footprint in Europe's most critical cycling hubs.

By joining forces, the combined entity will command a leading position in Paris and significantly strengthen its presence in Berlin and Hamburg. The deal adds over 11.000 high-quality e-bikes to Swapfiets’ existing fleet, bringing the total number of subscription e-bikes on the road to more than 75.000. Overall, the combination of companies will be active in 45 cities with around 280.000 members riding city and electric bikes.

The acquisition is supported by global mobility company Pon Holdings, owner of a broad range of consumer bike brands worldwide, including Swapfiets. Pon Holdings’ ultimate goal is to ensure continued mobility for people, cities, and industries - efficiently and sustainably. Adding Dance to the Swapfiets family fully fits the objective to accelerate the movement towards more livable cities. Pon believes that bike mobility services, such as the subscription models offered by Swapfiets and Dance, tangibly contribute to increased cycling and more biking in cities, and in turn, better urban living.

A multi-brand strategy for liveable cities

Swapfiets will continue to run the Dance brand alongside its own, offering urban commuters a distinct choice in how they access worry-free mobility. While Swapfiets remains the go-to for high-touch service and physical retail support, Dance will appeal to customers who prefer a seamless, touch-free digital customer journey.

"Our mission has always been to lead the movement to more liveable cities, and this acquisition allows us to accelerate that impact at a larger scale," says Marc de Vries, CEO of Swapfiets. "By bringing Dance into the Swapfiets family, we are not just adding bikes; we are combining two of the most innovative teams in the industry to ensure that every bike rack in Europe’s major cities has a subscription bike in it. We are thrilled to welcome the Dance team and we can’t wait to collectively provide our worry-free subscription service to a growing number of customers."

Transforming the way Europeans move

Dance co-founder and CEO Christian Springub will remain in his role, leading the Dance brand under the Swapfiets umbrella. The current Dance operational teams will ensure continuity for members, while the two companies begin sharing best practices in hardware innovation and digital experience.

"We started Dance to make sustainable travel the easy choice, and joining forces with Swapfiets is the ultimate way to achieve that vision on a grand scale," says Christian Springub, co-founder and CEO of Dance. "Swapfiets has built an incredible operational engine, and by combining it with our digital-first approach, we are creating a powerhouse that can truly transform how people move in cities like Paris and Berlin. Together, we are stronger, faster in our mission to enhance mobility in European cities."
