Bicycle subscriptions are contributing to more liveable, car-free inner cities.

Amsterdam, March 2021 – On its mission to lead the movement to more liveable cities, that are greener, healthier, safer and more social for everyone, Dutch bicycle subscription Swapfiets is announcing plans to further expand in Europe. Swapfiets just launched in Barcelona in Spain and is planning to introduce the bike membership with free repairs in Lyon, Nantes, Strasbourg and Toulouse in France and Vienna in Austria by the end of April 2021.

In recent years cities invested heavily in bicycle infrastructure and since the Covid-19 pandemic accelerated the success of micro mobility solutions across Europe, the further expansion of Swapfiets comes at the right time. Environmental pollution resulting from increasing traffic density and congestion continue to challenge cities throughout the world. As bicycles are the most efficient, sustainable and ecologically friendly transportation solution for individuals in big cities, the Swapfiets concept is enjoying growing popularity with currently nearly 220.000 members in Europe. Founded in 2014, the world’s first bicycle as a service company with its iconic blue front tires, offers a truly unique service proposition differentiating itself from sharing or leasing servi”repair service included in the monthly subscription fee.

To tackle large city transportation problems the shift from cars to modern individual transportation solutions has to be made as easy as possible for people. Consequently – while keeping its focus on bicycles – Swapfiets also offers innovative e-powered products. The foldable Swapfiets e-Kick helps to bridge the first and last mile when using public transportation. Swapfiets Power 7 answers the increasing demand for e-Bikes for faster and easier longer-distance travels between urban and suburban areas. Furthermore e-Scoot, designed and produced by NIU, is part of Swapfiets’ product portfolio and available in selected cities.

The website www.swapfiets.com and mobile app provide a detailed overview of availability and prices for each bicycle and e-mobility product for each city.

"Marc de Vries, CEO of Swapfiets, says: We are very excited to further expand in Europe to such great cities as Barcelona and Vienna, where people are cycling more and more, as well as using other forms of micro-mobility. We believe that with our hassle-free bike membership we can truly contribute to making these cities more liveable."
